...And why its going to take longer.
Its a large project and unfortunately with my job, multi tasking with my other web series, and now a web comic I don't have as much time to spend animating. It doesn't mean I've given up though, quite the opposite. It means I have to put even more work into doing it and that includes doing something I absolutely hate: Storyboarding.
I've always enjoyed the freedom of creating something almost on the fly, I've never storyboarded any of my projects because I've never had to really. 'Tankmen Dual' wasn't story boarded, Neither was 'Romanticide', or 'left4lol:Survive this'.
Everything was animated in sequence one shot at a time in a stream of consciousness.
But, I cant do that with 'Deserters'. This is something...different than what I've ever done, and I'm not just saying that to make it sound special. I have to storyboard it because I can't really "see" it in my head, the same way I've seen my other toons so I have to put in the right effort to make this work or else its just going to be "meh" to me.
So as I hate storyboarding, because I always kind of feel confined by it as an artist...and let down when I don't use anything I've storyboarded in the end, I've chosen to apply my new skills as a web comic artist in a different way.
I'm going to make it a comic as well as a web series. I've spent 3 years with these characters, and story arcs and not being able to get them out fast enough has been painful, but beneficial as well. The story arcs have been able to gestate properly and become stronger, same with the characters and who they are.
So while I'm hoping to have the first episode out on 7/11/13(my birthday as well, I'm turning 33 and need an achievement anyways), I'm also going to try to have the first episode in comic form.
This process will take longer per episode but will be more beneficial to you, the audience, in the end as you'll get to enjoy it in two mediums.
The first series will be 4 episodes long, which means that it will be 4 comic chapters total. The first 4 episodes feature characters you aren't familiar with. The ones you want too see, the ones you all know, won't be present in this first story arc.
You can't build a house without a proper foundation, and these first 4 episodes and characters are that needed foundation.
So until my next update about this project, I'll leave you with an image from the comic side to set the tone of the series.
Oh, and Romanticide is going to be a series as well, Never planned to just leave it at once episode.
